How to Choose

Step 1 — Match track rating to fabric weight

  • Voiles and sheers: Fineline or Square Bendable
  • Standard lined curtains: Square Bendable or Discreet
  • Blackout, thermal, or interlined: Heavy-Duty as a minimum
  • Velvet, triple-lined, or wide spans: Corded 25 kg or Electric

Step 2 — Assess your bay shape

  • Standard or box bay: Square Bendable handles it on site by hand. Any factory-bent track works too.
  • 5-sided or complex bay: Factory-bent every time — send us a paper template.
  • Curved bow bay: We produce continuous curves in-factory. Contact us for a bespoke quote.

Step 3 — Choose operation

  • Hand draw — simplest and most reliable for most homes
  • Cord draw — keeps fabric clean, ideal for tall ceilings
  • Motorised — smart home integration, requires power supply to the track position

How to Measure

Square Bendable track: No template needed. Measure each straight section of your bay and order to the total length. Bend on site on the day.

Factory-bent tracks: Create a paper template on the ceiling of your bay — crease it precisely at every angle, mark each angle point, and note your required stack-back at each end. Email or post it to us and we manufacture to 1 mm accuracy.

Lead time: Factory-bent tracks ship within 5–7 working days of template approval. Add 1–2 days for powder-coated finishes or electric motor prep.

Installation

  1. Mark bracket positions — every 40–50 cm, reducing to 30 cm for heavy tracks or spans over 300 cm
  2. Pre-drill 3 mm pilot holes — vacuum out dust before inserting fixings
  3. Fix brackets — 45 mm screws with plugs suited to your ceiling type; into joists, no plug required
  4. Bend or mount the track — for Square Bendable, bend to your bay angles by hand first; for factory-bent, lift into brackets
  5. Load gliders and hang curtains — slide gliders in from the end, add end stops, test full travel

Tip: Apply a light coat of silicone spray in the channel before loading gliders — makes a noticeable difference on longer spans.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Square Bendable different from the Fineline?

Wave compatibility. The Square Bendable has a square-profile channel that accepts wave gliders, so you can hang wave heading curtains on site without a factory order. The Fineline uses a different profile and is not wave compatible. The Square Bendable also handles heavier curtains and comes in three colours — black, slate, and white.

Can I ceiling-mount a curtain track on plasterboard?

Yes, using toggle bolts or spring anchors rated for at least twice the fabric weight. For heavier tracks, fix into ceiling joists where possible — use a stud finder first. Standard plasterboard fixings alone are not sufficient for tracks rated above 7 kg/m.

What is the lead time for a factory-bent track?

5–7 working days from template approval. Add 1–2 days for powder-coated colours or electric motor preparation. If you need a faster turnaround, contact the team and we will advise what is possible.

Which track is best for acoustic or thermal curtains on a bay window?

The Heavy-Duty Contract Track or Corded 25 kg as a minimum. Run the track 30 cm past the window on each side and use full floor-length drops for maximum coverage. See our acoustic curtains guide for full specification detail.

Will the electric track work in a power cut?

Most motors de-clutch automatically, allowing the curtains to be drawn by hand without damage. Premium options support rechargeable battery packs for full operation during outages.
