Fabric Calculation for Curtains

Calculating the fabric required for making your curtains is quite simple, please follow the steps below to ensure that you have the necessary fabric required before ordering your products. We recommend emailing the team before placing the order just for a final check.

We make all our curtains to double fullness unless otherwise stated.

1. Get the Width and Drop for your track and desired drop of your curtains

2. Get your fabric width - usually 137cm but can vary with velvets

3. Find Pattern Repeat.

Calculation

1) Calculating Number of Widths for Curtains

 2) Calculating the Drop for a Plain Fabric / or Pattrerned Plain

Width of Curtain Track x 2 (TW) = Total Fabric Width

TFW Divided by / Fabric Width (FW) = Widths Required Total

eg. Track width = 200cm, Fabric width =137cm

Required Amount = TW x 2 (200cm x 2) = 400cm

400cm (TWC) / 137cm (FW) = 2.91 Thus round up to 3 Widths.

Thus 1.5 Widths per Curtain.

Drop required + 30cm for Hems

eg. Finish Drop of Curtains 150cm + 30cm for hems = 180cm

Pattern

Pattern repeat of Fabric = 25cm Vertical Repeat

Required drop including hems = 185cm

Dequired Drop / Pattern Repeat = 185cm / 25cm = 7.4

Thus round up to 8 = Cut Lenth = 8 x 25cm = 200cm -- Therefore 15cm wasted.

NOTE - Do not round down always round up.

3) Total Fabric Required

Plain - No Pattern Repeat

No of Widths x Fabric per Drop including pattern repeats cut lenth

3 Widths per Above total x Drop Required inc patter Repeat 180cm = 540cm (5.4 metres)

Pattern

No of Widths x Fabric per Drop including pattern repeats cut lenth

3 Widths per Above total x Drop Required inc patter Repeat 180cm = 540cm (6 metres)
