What is the difference between made-to-measure and ready-made curtains?
Made-to-measure curtains are manufactured to your exact window dimensions and drop. Ready-made come in fixed sizes that often require compromise — gaps at the edges, incorrect drop lengths, or excess fabric on the floor. Our made-to-measure curtains are produced in the UK within 3 to 4 weeks and hang correctly because they are built to your space.
The fit difference also affects performance — a curtain that covers the full window with correct overlap on each side will perform significantly better acoustically and thermally than one with gaps.
How do I measure my windows for curtains?
For width, measure the full length of your curtain track or pole, not the window opening. For the drop, measure from the bottom of the curtain rings or top of the track to where you want the curtain to finish — sill, below sill or floor length.

What heading styles are available?
We offer pencil pleat, eyelet, triple pinch pleat, wave, tie top and goblet headings. Each heading style affects the fullness of the curtain, the stack-back width and the type of track or pole required. Our heading styles guide covers all options with diagrams.
Are thermal curtains genuinely effective at saving energy?
Yes, when fitted correctly. Our thermally certified curtains are independently tested to reduce heat loss by 30% over double glazing. The key is fitting them high and wide so they fully cover the window and surrounding wall, minimising cold air circulation at the glass surface.

What is the difference between blackout and dimout curtains?
Blackout curtains use a coated lining that blocks 99%+ of light. Suitable for bedrooms, nurseries, shift workers and home cinemas. Dimout curtains significantly reduce light but allow a small amount through, creating a softer effect suitable for living rooms where total darkness is not required.

Do I need fire retardant curtains?
If your curtains are for any commercial or public space — a hotel, school, care home, office, hospital or theatre — fire retardant certification is a legal requirement under UK fire safety regulations.
Our FR curtains are certified to BS5867 Part 2B and 2C. For domestic use it is not legally required but many customers choose FR as a precaution. Read more in our fire retardant curtains guide.
Can acoustic curtains genuinely reduce noise?
Yes, with honest expectations. Our acoustic curtains are lab certified and achieve up to 16 dB improvement at the voice frequency range where human hearing is most sensitive. At a window alongside double glazing the weighted average improvement is +4 dB. As room dividers the curtain Sound Reduction Index is 11 to 12 dB weighted average.

How long do made-to-measure curtains take to arrive?
Current lead time is 3 to 4 weeks from order confirmation. We manufacture in the UK and will not rush production at the expense of quality. Samples are available immediately and are the best first step before placing a full order — they let you confirm colour and fabric in your own space before committing.
