Will it work for my situation?
Pick the closest match. This keeps expectations realistic.
Traffic noise, voices, general outside noise
Good results when the curtain overlaps the window and you reduce drafts.
Bedroom sleep upgrade
Strong choice — noise reduction plus blackout plus thermal benefit in one curtain.
Aircraft noise
Often helpful, but results depend heavily on window quality and sealing.
Very low frequency bass or vibration
Curtains help, but building structure matters. Consider sealing upgrades alongside.
Straight talk: your window is the main barrier. The curtain is a proven upgrade, not a replacement for poor glazing.
What you get

Fitting makes the difference
These 3 rules are where most performance is won or lost.
Aim: higher + wider + floor length
1) Fit higher
Mount 15 to 20 cm above the window, or ceiling fit where possible.
2) Go wider
Overlap the window edges by 20 to 30 cm each side.
3) Seal drafts first
Air gaps are sound gaps. Improving seals delivers better results.
Our own test result
Fitting the curtain 30 cm wider than the window and making it floor length produced the +4 dB improvement shown in our certificates. Fitting tight to the frame produces a lower result.
About "up to 21 dB" claims
Some suppliers quote peak figures at very high frequencies (4,000+ Hz) where any dense fabric performs well. Our published results focus on realistic performance across the full frequency range.
You will also need a suitable track
Acoustic curtains are heavy — over 1 kg per m². Standard plastic tracks and lightweight poles are not suitable.
Contract Heavy Duty Curtain Track
Metal heavy-duty track rated to 60 kg. Black or white. Wave compatible. The recommended track for our full acoustic range.
- ✓ Rated to 60 kg load
- ✓ Wave, eyelet and pencil pleat compatible
- ✓ Black or white finish
- ✓ Made to measure
Proof and testing
We publish our certificates. Most competitors do not test at all.
Window test: 29 dB baseline → 33 dB with curtain (+4 dB)
What the window test means
- Double glazing alone measures 29 dB
- Our curtain takes it to 33 dB (+4 dB improvement)
- Room divider SRI is 11 dB — curtain tested in isolation with no window
- Fitting height and overlap affect real-world results

How we tested — and what it means at the frequencies that matter
Real-world mounting. Published certificates. Honest frequency breakdown.
How this test was conducted
Most acoustic lab tests mount material in a rigid sealed frame. Our curtains were tested mounted on a standard curtain rail in a normal domestic setup — the same way you would fit them at home. The test accounts for real edge gaps, real drape behaviour and a real installation method.
Getting +4 dB in a realistic mounted test is a more meaningful result than a higher figure from a sealed frame that no real installation would replicate.
Why the weighted average undersells performance
The Rw weighted figure of +4 dB is an average across all frequencies including the low bass range (below 200 Hz) where curtains — like all soft furnishings — have limited effect. At the frequencies human hearing is most sensitive to, the improvement is substantially higher.
Across the 630 Hz to 2,000 Hz range — where voices, traffic and most everyday noise sits — our curtain adds an average of 8 dB over the window alone.
Frequency by frequency — window baseline vs window with curtain
Tested on standard curtain rail. Published certificate. Direct Fabrics lab test.

+8 dB

Where human hearing is most sensitive
+12 dB
Peak improvement at
1,250 Hz
The frequency range of speech and voices
Why does the weighted Rw show only +4 dB? The weighted figure follows a standardised calculation that includes low bass frequencies (below 200 Hz) where the window itself already provides good isolation and curtains add little. This pulls the average down significantly. The frequencies where the curtain makes the most difference — the mid-range where you actually hear noise — are not fully reflected in a single weighted number.

Quick reference: a 10 dB change is commonly described as sounding roughly half as loud. Your result depends on the room, the window and how the curtain is fitted.
What customers say
Verified Trustpilot reviews with genuine install photos.
"They deaden or muffle noise from the street outside very well - cars, people. If there is very loud music the bass still comes through but it is muffled. They make the room much more cosy and combined with the blackout they are excellent."

I was quoted a delivery time of 3-4…I was quoted a delivery time of 3-4 weeks but the order was delivered within 10 days. The colour is great and the curtains were easily hung by 1 person. The curtains shut out much of the light and some of the sound which helps with a good sleep. The only negative was the box the curtains were packed in was quite battered by the time it arrived and had been repaired by DPD but the curtains were undamaged.0 people found this helpful

Wow!Wow! I'm very impressed with the door curtain I ordered and hung it up straightaway. The curtain is beautifully made and the header tape was adjusted to fit the pole exact. The metal hooks were already inserted and there are weights stitched into the hem to help it hang perfectly. The fabric and lining are lovely and the curtain has noticeably reduced the echo and noise from the main road. A great purchase. Thank you!0 people found this helpful

How to Measure For Curtains, Blinds and Tracks.
Make sure your curtain tracks and poles are fitted in the position you want.
Choose the type of curtains that you would like and how you want to hang your curtains. See our heading styles guide
We recommend fitting your hardware first before measuring, this avoids any issues with not getting the perfect fit.
Measure your window using our main guide. Quick summary below. Remember wave, pinch, and designer headings require slightly different measurement
Measure in 3 places and take the shortest drop – Floors and ceilings can run out.
Double / Triple check your measurements

Choosing your Curtain Track Width
The width of the curtain track should extend past your window this allows for the curtains to stack back away from your window and allow light in.
Measure your recess and then add on 15cm on either side. For acoustics , we recommend further to fully cover the window and the surrounding area. In our test we added an additional 30cm to the width and also made the curtain floor length.
Wave curtains, for every 100cm of track the curtains will stack circa *18cm
Eyelet curtains, they will stack back circa 10cm per *70cm of track width
Pencil Pleat will stack approx 25% of the track width. eg. 210cm track will stack 52.5%
* all dependent on thickness of fabric

How to Measure for Blinds going Inside the Recess
- Measure the exact width of the recess in three places; at the top of the recess, in the centre of the recess and near the bottom - then take the smallest size.
- Measure the exact drop of the recess in three places on the left hand side of the recess, in the centre of the recess and on the right hand side of the recess - then take the smallest size.
- We will take one cm off the finished width size you have given us, to allow for the blind to pull up and down easily.
- Double check your measurements
- Cord Safety - Mounting Height - We ask for the mounting height of your blinds to allow for the cord to be 150cm off the ground. If mounting at 210cm This is what you enter in the Fitting height box. We make a deduction to ensure the cord is 150cm from the floor. Thus the cord loop will be 60cm
How to Measure Outside of the Recess
- Measure the recess in 3 places on the width and also 3 places on the drop. Take the widest measurement.
- Measure the width of the actual recess plus an additional amount – Usually from 7cm-15cm whatever you think looks appropriate. This is for overlap.
- Measure the exact drop of the recess. The blind would be fitted above the recess, so check the space above and add an amount on to the drop – usually from 7-15cm
- These sizes you have taken will be the size of the finished blind.
Cubicle Tracks you have to measure with right angles from wall to wall where you want the track to go
Draw your room on a piece of paper with a sky view
Now measure from the wall to wall for straight tracks,
L Shape Tracks Measure to a point on the floor and mark with a piece of tape. Then for the other sides measure from the other wall to that point.
Always check for obstructions and fitting issues you may need to work around
