Are my products certified for use in a public place?

We have chosen our fabrics because they are certified to British Standards for flame retardant products. These are all certified for use in public spaces in the UK. Obviously it is worth speaking with your fire officer in case you think they may require special product requirements. But our flame retardant curtain fabrics are certified to BS5867 Part 2B or 2C, Bedding to BS7175 and our upholstery to BS5852.

What are my Curtain Lining Options?

Curtain Linings We offer a range of linings for your curtains, suitable for various applications. Each lining type serves a specific purpose, ensuring the best results for your needs. Choosing the Right Lining Domestic or Hotel Curtains: Blackout lining to block light and darken rooms. Hospital or Salon Cubicle Curtains: Unlined with dimout material to reduce light naturally. Room Dividers: Acoustic bonded blackout lining to reduce sound transfer, provide blackout, and offer thermal insulation. All linings from Direct Fabrics are flame-retardant and certified to BS5867 for commercial use. Curtain Lining Range Unlined Curtains Unlined curtains are a cost-effective option. If the fabric is dimout or blackout, it can provide up to 90% dimout or 100% blackout. The track location affects the light filtering. Polyester Light Weight Lining This low-cost flame-retardant lining enhances fullness and drape. It can be washed up to 50 times and adds a luxurious feel to dimout and blackout fabrics. Blackout Curtain Lining 3-pass blackout lining ensures 100% blackout. It is certified to BS5867 Part2B and can be washed 10 times. This lining enhances thermal insulation and draping. Acoustic Blackout Lining Heavyweight interlined 3-pass blackout fleece improves acoustics, blocks sound transfer, and provides excellent thermal insulation. Acoustically tested to 9db.

Made-to-Measure Items Made-to-measure curtains and blinds are manufactured specifically to your requirements and cannot be returned. However, if there's a manufacturing fault or error on our part, we'll resolve the issue fairly and promptly. Damaged or Faulty Items If your order arrives damaged or has a manufacturing fault, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos. Can I return made-to-measure curtains?

Made-to-measure curtains cannot be returned as they are manufactured specifically to your measurements and specifications. This is standard practice across the industry for bespoke products. Number of Curtains

When choosing either a pair to cover your track or a single curtain we can do either. It is the same price and the same amount of fabric used in curtains. It will just be 1 large curtain or a pair of curtains.

Heading Style

3" Pencil Pleat Curtains

Pencil pleat is the traditional style of curtain heading that is a used in most windows and gives a lovely finish. You have the flexibility from the stitched in curtain tape which allows you to alter the height above your track and pole.

44mm Eyelet Curtains

A modern finish which the pole slots through the curtains, this means you can a lovely feature of your pole with a contrast of the metal against the curtain fabric.

This style uses a special track or pole to achieve uniform soft folds, providing a sleek and elegant look that is particularly well-suited for contemporary interiors. The wave heading ensures that curtains hang beautifully with a consistent finish, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a stylish and understated window dressing.

Stage Curtain Heading

These are for heavy duty curtains and are used with large tracks. The tie tops are simple to put up and adjust if you are wanting some flexibility or using with Pipe and Drape Systems. Also available are Dog clips that can clip onto each glider and are strong and robust. Billet hooks which are a strong plastic self closing clip that clips through the glider

We offer a range of linings for your curtains. These are offered with all the curtains we manufacture and you can choose the option based on the finish of curtains that you require. The main thing to understand is what you are trying to achieve, then you can select the best choice for what you are doing.

Here are some ideas of what you are trying to do

All of our curtain linings are flame retardant to British Standards and can be used in contract environments.

Unlined Curtains

Unlined Curtains are a good option if you are looking for a low cost option. If the fabric is dimout or blackout it will provide you with a good amount of shading for the rooms with these curtains, dimout will be 90%+ and blackout with an off-white 3 pass coating will be 100% blackout. Obviously, depending on where the track is located, it will depend how much light will come through.

Polyester Light Weight Lining - Thermal Reflect Heat in Summer

Standard polyester FR lining is a low-cost option that provides extra fullness and helps your curtains drape better. The Polyester lining can be washed 50 times and is inherently flame retardant. It will provide additional shade on standard fabrics and on dimout and blackout fabrics it adds a more luxurious feel. But remember that your washing needs to be in accordance with the face fabric and the lining.

Blackout Curtain Lining - Thermal - Keep Warm in Winter

Certified for thermal insulation. Certified by a laboratory to improve heat retention by 31% compared to not having a curtain. 3 Pass blackout lining is completely blackout and will not let any light through. This is our ideal choice for curtains as it ensures no light comes through. Certified to BS5867 Part 2B and washable up to 10 times. The 3 pass coating is durable and provides a thermal benefit while improving the curtain’s drape.

Acoustic Blackout Lining Fleece Flame Retardant

Certified for thermal insulation and sound absorption. Tested to improve heat retention by 30% and provides 9dB sound absorption. This is a heavy-weight interlined option with 3 pass blackout lining, excellent for acoustics and sound isolation. Ideal for use as a room divider or to improve the acoustics within the space.

Tiebacks

Tiebacks used to hold your curtains back when not in use. We manufacture shaped tiebacks in matching fabric to your curtains.

Unlined

A lower-cost option. If your fabric is dimout or blackout, you still get strong shading: dimout is typically 90%+ light reduction and 3-pass blackout is designed for full blackout. Final performance depends on fitting and where the track is positioned, as light can leak around the edges.

Standard polyester FR lining

A cost-effective way to add fullness and improve drape. Polyester FR lining is inherently flame retardant and is suitable for regular use. It adds extra shade behind decorative fabrics and is often chosen to give dimout and blackout fabrics a more luxurious handle.

3 pass blackout lining (FR)

The Direct Fabrics go-to lining for maximum light control. The 3-pass coating is hard wearing, adds a thermal benefit, and improves drape. Certified to BS5867 Part 2B for commercial environments. Edge leakage still depends on fitting.

Duo blackout lining with fleece (FR)

A heavy, premium option combining fleece with a blackout lining for extra body and a more substantial hang. The fleece layer can also help with echo reduction, making it a strong choice where you want improved room acoustics as well as blackout.

The reviews are what lead us to Direct Fabrics and they absolutely lived up to our expectations. From the get go Connie made the utmost effort to understand what we were looking for and provided so much knowledge to help with our decision. The window we were buying for is abnormally large for a domestic request at 4 metres wide, but Connie assured us throughout the process and made sure we were installing a track that could support the weight of the curtains. At no point did we feel like we were being rushed or pressured into something, just always there to answer any remaining questions we may have had, and Connie worked with us on fulfilling an additional request we had for the curtains' construction with no issues. We asked for a few more colour samples after deciding on the texture of fabric we liked, and this was no problem with the team. Connie even independently looked into an additional third party product we had mentioned being interested in getting further down the line, and gave her suggestions on what we'd likely need to consider based on this. When the curtains turned up (absolutely on schedule as advised), they were well packaged and they're stunning quality. Everything is as we wanted, and the workmanship is incredible. They hang beautifully and are the perfect fullness for our window so we had no worry of light gaps and things not meeting well in the middle (we went with ceiling mounted wave curtains). We also got a pair of matching cushion covers to tie the room together nicely, and they're made beautifully too. We rave about our curtains to anyone who will listen, from both a quality and customer service perspective, and will absolutely be returning when we work through the rest of our renovation.
