Acoustic absorption curtains for calmer rooms
These made-to-measure curtains use our Acoustic Herringbone face fabric (360gsm) and are independently reported as achieving 0.95 aw (A-rated) sound absorption when tested as a double-fullness curtain mounted 100mm from a wall. In practice, this supports improved room acoustics by reducing sound reflections.
The fabric is stated as 90% dimout even when unlined, which can help manage light spill while focusing on acoustic absorption. Lining options are available, including sealed 2-pass lining options for additional light and thermal control (see specification options).
Certificates, care guidance and any supporting documentation are available in the Spec tab for project files.
Where this fits in our range
Choose this option when the priority is reducing echo/reverberation within a space (absorption). For room divider sound reduction or targeted window noise reduction, use the dedicated products shown in our acoustic curtain range: Acoustic Curtains.
Best suited for
- Rooms with hard surfaces where echo and reverberation are an issue
- Multi-use halls, meeting rooms, studios and similar internal spaces
- Projects needing a dimout face fabric (stated 90% dimout when unlined)
For a clear explanation of absorption vs insulation and how to specify correctly, see: Understanding acoustic curtains (absorption vs insulation) .
Who uses our sound absorption curtains
Commonly specified where improved room acoustics are needed, including community venues, education spaces, meeting rooms and multi-purpose areas. They are also used in hospitality settings where reducing reverberation helps improve comfort and speech clarity.
If your requirement is primarily to block sound transfer (e.g. between two areas) rather than reduce echo, use the specialist acoustic options in our range: Acoustic Curtains.

Curtain installation a great successOur personalised advisers were a huge help in putting our order together. They put a quote together instantly, and also understood that as a charity everything at our end took a while to confirm and go ahead. The curtains are a great match and the swatches were a really good guide. The acoustics in the space are much improved, light and heat control a real bonus, and the curtains are well made and look great! Both Lizzie and Jane were endlessly patient about several tweaks to our order, and the fitting went smoothly and without any upheaval or drama. Many thanks to the whole team.0 people found this helpful

Now they are installed, the room feels more cosy and the acoustics are completely different (there’s less echoing and reverberation).I contacted Direct Fabrics as I wanted a set of curtains that would reduce echoing in my open plan kitchen extension. I spoke to Jane Lovell who was very helpful in specifying the most appropriate fabric based on my needs (sound absorption). After I gave a detailed drawing with measurements, Jane provided a detailed quotation with everything I needed. There was a delay as the fabric I wanted was on back order, but the wait was worth it. Now they are installed, the room feels more cosy and the acoustics are completely different (there’s less echoing and reverberation). Direct Fabrics were very professional and helpful from start to end, and I would highly recommend them to anyone.0 people found this helpful
