Why this track is different

Most bendable curtain tracks are a compromise — either too stiff to bend accurately, or so soft they lose shape over time. The Square30 profile is different. It bends smoothly by hand around the included MDF curve former, holds its shape once fixed, and if you overbend a section you simply bend it back. No special tools, no wasted track, no call to us.

Forgiving to install

Overbend — bend it back. Unlike most tracks, the Square30 profile allows correction without weakening the material. First-time DIY installers get it right.

Wave compatible as standard

Surf 60mm wave gliders are included. Order your curtains to the glider count — not the track width — for a perfect wave heading around every corner of your bay.

Modular — no waste

Sections join together for any bay size. Mis-cut a section? Just order a replacement 1.5m length. Shipped flat, next-day delivery available, no oversized charges.

How much track do I need?

Measure the total length of your bay in a straight line across each section — front edge of the window recess, not the wall-to-wall measurement. Add the lengths together. Then choose the combination of 1.5m, 1.8m, 2.4m, or 3.0m sections that gets you there. Sections join with a connector.

Typical bay window sizes

Bay type Typical total length Suggested sections
Small Victorian 3-sided 2.4 – 2.8m 1 x 2.4m or 1.5m + 1.5m joined
Standard 3-sided bay 3.0 – 3.6m 1 x 3.0m or 1.8m + 1.8m joined
Large 3-sided bay 3.6 – 4.2m 3.6m or 2.4m + 1.8m joined
5-sided / angled bay 4.2 – 5.0m 2.4m + 2.4m joined or 3.0m + 1.8m

Not sure? Add 10–15cm to your measurement to allow for overlap at each end. Extra sections are easy to order — just the length you need, shipped next day.

Ordering wave curtains for this track

Wave heading curtains are made to glider count — not to the track width. Each hook in the curtain tape slots onto one glider. The table below shows how many Surf 60mm gliders come with each track length, and therefore the width your curtains need to be made to.

Important: if your track is made up of joined sections, use the total combined length to find your glider count below. An extra glider or two from a join just creates a slightly fuller wave — this looks better, not worse.

Total track length Gliders included (Surf 60mm) Single curtain — order to Pair of curtains — order each to
1.5m 26 26 hooks 13 hooks each
1.8m 30 30 hooks 15 hooks each
2.4m 40 40 hooks 20 hooks each
3.0m 52 52 hooks 26 hooks each
3.6m 62 62 hooks 31 hooks each
4.0m 68 68 hooks 34 hooks each
4.8m 82 82 hooks 41 hooks each

Glider counts are based on Surf 60mm spacing. If you are ordering wave curtains from Direct Fabrics we will calculate the correct hook count for you automatically. Order made-to-measure curtains →

How to install — step by step

Follow this sequence. Threading gliders before bending makes the track much harder to work with — bend first, gliders after.

1

Fix brackets to wall or ceiling

Mark and fix your brackets at the correct positions. Ceiling fix brackets are included — use wall fix brackets if mounting to the wall above the window. Space brackets no more than 60cm apart.

2

Join track sections if needed

Slide sections together using the included joiner and cover. The join is practically invisible once covered and does not affect glider travel.

3

Bend to your bay using the curve former

Hold the track against the included MDF arc former and apply gentle, even pressure to create the bend. Work gradually — a few degrees at a time. If you overbend, simply reverse the pressure and bend it back. There is no penalty for correcting a bend.

4

Clip track into brackets

Once you are happy with the bends, click the track into the fixed brackets. Check the track runs smoothly along its full length before moving to the next step.

5

Thread gliders onto the track

Feed the Surf 60mm wave gliders onto the track from one end. Use the glider count table above to check you have the right number for your curtains. Fit end stops at both ends once gliders are loaded.

6

Hang your curtains

Hook each curtain tape hook onto a glider. The wave should form naturally across the full bay. Run the curtains open and closed a few times to set the wave evenly.

Made a mistake on a section? Just order a replacement 1.5m length — it ships as a standard parcel, usually next day. No need to replace the entire track.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really bend it back if I get it wrong?
Yes. The Square30 profile is specifically designed to allow correction. Unlike some tracks that weaken or kink when overbent, this profile can be worked gradually in both directions. Take your time, use the included curve former as a guide, and adjust until the bend matches your bay exactly.
How is this different from the Fineline track?
The key difference is wave compatibility. The Fineline track takes standard gliders and is not compatible with wave heading curtains. The Square30 uses Surf 60mm wave gliders, so you get the clean, contemporary wave heading look around the full bay — something that was previously only possible with a factory-bent bespoke track.
Why do I order curtains by hook count rather than width?
Wave heading curtains are made to a fixed hook spacing — in this case 60mm. Each hook slots onto one glider. The total number of gliders on your track determines how wide the curtain needs to be, not the track measurement itself. Use the glider count table above to find the right number for your track length, then pass that count to your curtain maker.
What if my joined sections give me slightly more gliders than expected?
An extra glider or two simply creates a slightly fuller wave — the curtain hangs with a little more fabric in each fold. This looks better than a wave that is too sparse. If you are ordering curtains from Direct Fabrics we will calculate the exact count for you.
What colours are available?
The Square30 track is available in White, Black, and Slate. These cover the vast majority of interior schemes. The track profile is slim and unobtrusive — for most installations it sits behind the curtain heading and is barely visible once hung.
What is the maximum curtain weight this track supports?
The Square30 track is rated to 50kg total curtain weight. This covers all standard lined and interlined curtains including blackout linings. For very heavy velvet or multiple-layer curtains above 50kg, contact us and we will advise on the heavy duty motorised track option instead.
Can I order just one replacement section if I make a mistake?
Yes — this is one of the main advantages of the modular system. A 1.5m section ships as a standard parcel, usually next day. No need to replace the whole track, no oversized delivery charges, no waiting weeks for a new bespoke quote.

Metal Tape Measure

As this will allow you to get a
rigid full length measurement.

Make sure your curtain tracks and poles are fitted in the position you want.

Choose the type of curtains that you would like and how you want to hang your curtains. See our heading styles guide

We recommend fitting your hardware first before measuring, this avoids any issues with not getting the perfect fit.

Measure your window using our main guide. Quick summary below. Remember wave, pinch, and designer headings require slightly different measurement

Measure in 3 places and take the shortest drop – Floors and ceilings can run out.

Double / Triple check your measurements

how to measure for curtains

Choosing your Curtain Track Width

The width of the curtain track should extend past your window this allows for the curtains to stack back away from your window and allow light in.

Measure your recess and then add on 15cm on either side. For acoustics , we recommend further to fully cover the window and the surrounding area. In our test we added an additional 30cm to the width and also made the curtain floor length.

Wave curtains, for every 100cm of track the curtains will stack circa *18cm

Eyelet curtains, they will stack back circa 10cm per *70cm of track width

Pencil Pleat will stack approx 25% of the track width. eg. 210cm track will stack 52.5%

* all dependent on thickness of fabric

How to Measure for Blinds going Inside the Recess

How to measure for blinds inside thet recess

  • Measure the exact width of the recess in three places; at the top of the recess, in the centre of the recess and near the bottom - then take the  smallest size.
  • Measure the exact drop of the recess in three places on the left hand side of the recess, in the centre of the recess and on the right hand side of the recess - then take the smallest size.
  • We will take one cm off the finished width size you have given us, to allow for the blind to pull up and down easily.
  • Double check your measurements
  • Cord Safety - Mounting Height - We ask for the mounting height of your blinds to allow for the cord to be 150cm off the ground. If mounting at 210cm This is what you enter in the Fitting height box. We make a deduction to ensure the cord is 150cm from the floor. Thus the cord loop will be 60cm

How to Measure Outside of the Recess

  • Measure the recess in 3 places on the width and also 3 places on the drop. Take the widest measurement.
  • Measure the width of the actual recess plus an additional amount – Usually from 7cm-15cm whatever you think looks appropriate. This is for overlap.
  • Measure the exact drop of the recess. The blind would be fitted above the recess, so check the space above and add an amount on to the drop – usually from 7-15cm
  • These sizes you have taken will be the size of the finished blind.

Cubicle Tracks you have to measure with right angles from wall to wall where you want the track to go

Draw your room on a piece of paper with a sky view

Now measure from the wall to wall for straight tracks,

L Shape Tracks Measure to a point on the floor and mark with a piece of tape. Then for the other sides measure from the other wall to that point.

Always check for obstructions and fitting issues you may need to work around
