Hidden Recess Curtain Track – Sunken Into Ceiling Curtain Track

Transform your space with the sleek, modern look of a recess curtain track. Designed to sit within a ceiling cut-out, it delivers an “invisible track” appearance—minimal, clean, and compatible with most interior styles—while ensuring smooth, reliable curtain operation.

Built from high-quality aluminium, the track is durable and versatile—even for shaped windows such as arches and circles. UV-protected, clickable carriers help the fabric traverse smoothly and maintain straight, tidy pleats—ideal for both residential and commercial projects.

Compatible with Wave curtains when supplied with Wave gliders. For correct clearance, leave 7 cm from the wall for 60 mm Wave and 9 cm for 80 mm Wave.

Installer notes

  • Retrospective installs: you’ll need to cut a perfectly straight channel in the ceiling for a flush fit. Prefer to avoid this? Choose our surface-mounted alternative.
  • New builds: fix into the joists first, then bring plasterboard neatly up to the track edge.
  • Prefer a low-profile surface-mounted option? See the slimline contract track.
Hidden recess curtain track installed flush with the ceiling, with Wave curtains
Example install: recess track with Wave heading.

Slimline contract curtain track – low-profile ceiling mounted version

Ceiling-mount alternative (no groove required)

The slimline contract track uses the same profile but comes with brackets for direct ceiling fixing. At under 2 cm deep, it’s a discreet, easy-install option when you don’t want to cut a groove in your ceiling.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the track fit into the ceiling?
The track is pre-drilled for direct fixing to the ceiling structure. For a flush finish, it's best installed before plasterboarding so plaster can run right up to the track edge.
How much will the curtains stack back?
Curtain stack varies with fabric weight and heading. As a rule of thumb, pencil pleat curtains stack back around 20–25% of the total width. For a 100cm window recess, divide by 0.75 to get a track length of roughly 133cm.
Is this track compatible with 60mm and 80mm wave curtains?
Yes, the track works with both 60mm and 80mm wave curtain headings. We supply the curtain gliders for the required length of rail.
Can this track be used in bay windows or curved spaces?
While this track is not flexible on-site, we offer a factory bending service based on measurements or templates you provide. This allows the track to be pre-curved for bay windows and other shaped installations.
How do I protect the track during decorating?
We recommend covering the channel with masking tape during plastering and painting to prevent dust and debris entering. Alternatively, you can purchase our protective insert that slots into the track to keep it clean until final installation.
Any tips for installing the track in a recessed groove?
Since the track is aluminium and can scratch easily, any internal damage will reduce the smoothness of curtain movement. Use a narrow screwdriver head when installing screws to avoid scratching the inside of the channel.
Can I fit this track retrospectively into an existing ceiling?
Yes, it is possible, but you'll need to cut a perfectly straight channel into your ceiling using a multitool or oscillating saw. If you’d rather avoid this, our slimline surface-mounted track is a great alternative.
What weight curtains can this track hold?
The track can hold medium to heavy curtains — up to 10kg per metre — if properly fixed into solid ceiling joists or suitable fixings. Contact us if you're unsure whether your curtains are suitable.
Does the track come with all the fixings and gliders?
Yes, it comes complete with ceiling fixings, gliders, and end stops. Additional accessories or spare parts are available separately if needed.

Flawless customer service and an excellent product For my extension project, I discovered I needed a ceiling curtain track within a couple of days or it would be too late to include in the project. I spoke to a team member on the phone and she was able to support me to order the right product and arrange delivery in two days. The build team are impressed by the tracks as well. Overall I’m delighted.

Hidden Recess Curtain Track (Ceiling Mounted)

The measure of a good company is really how they respond when things go wrong. We ordered two curtain tracks, one of the plaster-in and critical path for plastering on our renovation. They arrived on time but the plaster-in track was wrong - surface mount instead. Jane and the team at D-F sent out a replacement same day as we reported it and it was on site 2 days later at no extra cost - excellent service, can't thank them enough for keeping us moving! Quality of everything was as described, well packed and all you'd hope for.

How to Measure For Curtains, Blinds and Tracks.

Pen and Paper

For recording your
measurements.

Helper

Someone to assist if your
windows are large .

Metal Tape Measure

As this will allow you to get a
rigid full length measurement.

Make sure your curtain tracks and poles are fitted in the position you want.

Choose the type of curtains that you would like and how you want to hang your curtains. See our heading styles guide

We recommend fitting your hardware first before measuring, this avoids any issues with not getting the perfect fit.

Measure your window using our main guide. Quick summary below. Remember wave, pinch, and designer headings require slightly different measurement

Measure in 3 places and take the shortest drop – Floors and ceilings can run out.

Double / Triple check your measurements

how to measure for curtains

Choosing your Curtain Track Width

The width of the curtain track should extend past your window this allows for the curtains to stack back away from your window and allow light in.

Measure your recess and then add on 15cm on either side. For acoustics , we recommend further to fully cover the window and the surrounding area. In our test we added an additional 30cm to the width and also made the curtain floor length.

Wave curtains, for every 100cm of track the curtains will stack circa *18cm

Eyelet curtains, they will stack back circa 10cm per *70cm of track width

Pencil Pleat will stack approx 25% of the track width. eg. 210cm track will stack 52.5%

* all dependent on thickness of fabric

How to Measure for Blinds going Inside the Recess

How to measure for blinds inside thet recess

  • Measure the exact width of the recess in three places; at the top of the recess, in the centre of the recess and near the bottom - then take the  smallest size.
  • Measure the exact drop of the recess in three places on the left hand side of the recess, in the centre of the recess and on the right hand side of the recess - then take the smallest size.
  • We will take one cm off the finished width size you have given us, to allow for the blind to pull up and down easily.
  • Double check your measurements
  • Cord Safety - Mounting Height - We ask for the mounting height of your blinds to allow for the cord to be 150cm off the ground. If mounting at 210cm This is what you enter in the Fitting height box. We make a deduction to ensure the cord is 150cm from the floor. Thus the cord loop will be 60cm

How to Measure Outside of the Recess

  • Measure the recess in 3 places on the width and also 3 places on the drop. Take the widest measurement.
  • Measure the width of the actual recess plus an additional amount – Usually from 7cm-15cm whatever you think looks appropriate. This is for overlap.
  • Measure the exact drop of the recess. The blind would be fitted above the recess, so check the space above and add an amount on to the drop – usually from 7-15cm
  • These sizes you have taken will be the size of the finished blind.

Cubicle Tracks you have to measure with right angles from wall to wall where you want the track to go

Draw your room on a piece of paper with a sky view

Now measure from the wall to wall for straight tracks,

L Shape Tracks Measure to a point on the floor and mark with a piece of tape. Then for the other sides measure from the other wall to that point.

Always check for obstructions and fitting issues you may need to work around
